How High School Dropout Alan Gerry Made His Billions

Do you ever worry that a lack of a university education might prevent you from starting your own business?

Do you think you need to spend years and years in school before you can find success?

I’m here to tell you that you don’t need a formal education to achieve the life you dream about. You can be a success, even if you dropped out of school.

And to prove it, I want to talk to you about Alan Gerry.

Alan Gerry didn’t have a lot in life when he was a kid. His father worked in the frozen food sector during the Great Depression in the United States. Naturally, that meant that there wasn’t a whole lot of food on the table.

Gerry grew up poor and placed little value in education.

In fact, he dropped out of high school so that he could serve in the US Marines during World War II.

He returned from the war a changed man.

Using the GI Bill benefits that he earned during the conflict, he became a trained TV repairman.

And it’s through that work that the spark of inspiration struck him.

Gerry saw the potential in cable television long before anyone around him did. And he was so confident in the new technology that he invested $1,500 to start his own cable company in 1956.

Fast forward a few decades and his company operated 64 cable systems across 18 American states.

In 1996, he finally decided to sell his business.

The high school dropout sold his company for $2.7 billion. And $900 million of that went right into his back pocket.

Gerry’s story teaches us something that’s so important.

It doesn’t matter where you come from.

For the last 10 years, he has been teaching people to run their own business from home by importing goods from China and selling them locally. In that time some students have replaced their incomes, brought new money into their households and some have even become millionaires.
